Prologue Part 1
Madeleine Mystery
Poppy was bored. She sat at her desk at the Will-O-Wisp Academy and sighed. Her sister, Pansy was lazily flicking blocks of dark magic blocks onto her pencils, turning them dark purple.
Thalia, Pansy's closest friend was standing near the door, keeping watch for their teacher, Miss Madeleine.
"When will she get here?" asked Emma, annoyed. "This is the...."
"Thirtieth time she's been late for class," finished their classmate, 6703. 6703 was a robot and had been found in a junk shop by their principal.
"You've been counting?," asked James in awe. "I'd have lost count by now!"
"Uh, yeah I know," said Pansy, flashing her friend, Leaf a sneaky smile.
"I hope Rory gets here before Miss Madeleine," said Annabeth nervously. "You reClanmate last time he was late?"
"Yeah," said Emma, snickering. "Miss Madeleine kept him after school sooo long, he almost hurled!"
"Uh huh," said David, absent-mindedly.
Then, finally, Rory appeared in the doorway. He grinned and started to walk into the room. Emma, with a casual flick of her wrist, made a puddle on the floor. Rory, who was so busy greeting everyone, didn't notice it and slipped. He fell with a crash and everyone burst out laughing.
"Ror, you fell for it again!" laughed Carrot. "Get it? Fell for it again? Hahahaha!"
Rory picked himself off and shook some water off, glaring at Emma. "You know, I totally knew that was there. I was just trying to be funny!"
"Riiiight!" smiled Carrot.
"She's coming! Miss Madeleine's coming!" Thalia suddenly yelled. "Quick! Everyone get back in your seats!"
Everyone hurried back to their desks and took out their workbooks so as to make it seem like they had simply been reading while their teacher was absent.
A moment later, Miss Madeleine sidled into the room with a huge grin on her face. "Goooood morning apprentices!" she cooed. "I hope you were all quietly studying you textbooks while waiting for me?"
A low, awkward buzz went up from the class. 6703 leaned back in his chair innocently.
"Well, let's get on with our first lesson, shall we?" said Miss Madeleine cheerfully.
After class, 6703, Leaf, Rory, Annabeth, Thalia and Carrot gathered outside the principal's office upon seeing Miss Madeleine enter. They pressed their ears close to the door to hear.
"Miss Madeleine, I cannot stand this any longer," Principal Biscotti was saying.
"What's going on?" asked Annabeth curiously. "What are they talking about?"
"Maybe Principal Biscotti is firing Miss Madeleine for being late all the time!" guessed 6703, blinking.
The others stared at him and he shrugged the guess away.
Poppy, Pansy and the others happened to be walking by then and noticed the party. James walked over and looked questioningly at them. "What're you guys doing here?" he asked.
"........"
"Oh well," said Emma, rolling her eyes. "We'll eavesdrop with you." And all eleven of them gathered around the door.
Meanwhile, Principal Biscotti had continued. "I must ask you to go on a mission to Puffoon, the Wind planet," he said.
"Puffoon?" asked Miss Madeleined, shocked. "Why there?"
"I need you to deal with a wizard who has been causing alot of trouble in our world," explained the principal.
"A wizard? Which wizard?"
"A wizard who goes by the name of Kale or Master Kale nowadays," replied Principal Biscotti. "I believe he was once a student of yours?"
Miss Madeleine looked away out the window in shock and amazement, then turned back to the school's principal. "Kale?!" she asked.
The conversation was interrupted as all eleven apprentices burst into the room and and rushed up to their teacher.
"Miss Madeleine, you didn't mean it, did you?" cried Leaf, horror-struck.
"You aren't really going off to some Wind planet?" wailed Thalia.
"Teacher," said 6703 quietly. "You can't leave us, your faithful students."
"Students, students," said Miss Madeleine, waving her hands. "Please. This conversation wasn't meant for your inquisitive ears. Yes, I am going off to Puffoon. Principal Biscotti will be looking after you while I am gone."
"But....but," protested Poppy, eyes widening. "You can't!"
Despite their arguments and protests, Miss Madeleine and Principal Biscotti ushered them out of the office and shooed them out for recess.
After the event, Miss Madeleine summoned the eleven apprentices into the meditation room. None of them had any clue what was going on. The only hint they had was their teacher's strange lateness habits and the strange conversation they had heard earlier.
"Why did Miss Madeleine want us to come here?" asked Emma once they'd arrived.
"You know," said Carrot, smiling slyly. "I think it's because of something Rory did!"
Everyone looked around at their classmate.
"Who? Me?!" asked Rory incredulously. "They can't prove anything!" He glared. "I mean I didn't do anything!"
"Yeah!" said Annabeth, stepping to his side. "You can't keep acusing him! Go ask Miss Madeleine what's going on, Poppy."
"Yeah, Poppy. Go ask her," agreed James.
Poppy stepped forward and walked torward their teacher. As the leader of the group, she usually was asked to do new things first by her friends.
Poppy tapped Miss Madeleine gently on the shoulder to signal they were there.
Miss Madeleine turned with a start and softened when she saw Poppy. "Oh, have you been here long, Poppy?" She turned to the rest of the group and sighed. "I will be leaving soon, but before I go, it's high time I taught each of you how to defend yourself. There are dangers out there, and you must know how to deal with them."
Rory's eyes lit up and rushed up the platform to their teacher. "Does that mean we're coming with you to this Wind planet?" he asked excitedly.
Miss Madeleines voice was firm as she replied, "No, I'm going alone. Yes, quite alone," she added as Poppy started to protest. "But you still need to learn to fight. Emma, please step forward."
Emma stepped forward and Miss Madeleine placed three dummies in front of her. "Your first lesson is about HP and MP," she said. "HP stands for hit points. Hit points resemble how much beating you can take. If your HP hits 0, you are KO'd. MP stands for magic power. If you run out of MP during battle, you cannot use magic. But you do gain some MP at each turn so do not worry about it so much. Now, Emma, please use some of your magic for us."
Emma nervously summoned up her power and with a "Ha!" a huge ball of ice appeared and she shot it at the first dummy.
"Very good," said Miss Madeleine. "Now did you notice how much MP that took? If you use a powerful spell too often, you may lose all your MP. Please reClanmate this. That wraps up lesson one."
Poppy looked anxiously at her classmates, but each one of them looked as excited as if they too were going to a Wind planet.
After a few minutes, Miss Madeleine called, "David, Annabeth, Rory please come forward now."
The two eagerly came forward and again, dummies were put before them.
"Now I will teach you about your signs," explained their teacher. "Everyone has a sign- even the monsters you fight! Red stands for fire, blue for water, brown for earth, yellow for wind and green for wood. White stands for light and black for dark. Now, Annabeth, try using some of your magic, would you?"
Annabeth nodded excitedly and looking over anxiously at Rory, threw some ice at the dummy.
"Very good!" exclaimed Miss Madeleine. "Now did you see how powerful that was? It's because water signs are strong against fire signs, Annabeth. If David tried using magic, it would be half of that because he is weak to fire."
The two students stepped back and Miss Madeleine added, "Light magic is strong during the day and dark magic at night. I hope you are drilling this into your young apprentice brains. Do you understand about magical starsigns?"
"Yes!" everyone replied.
"Very well," said Miss Madeleine. "It is time you learned about rows. Poppy, Pansy, step foward."
The two stepped torward the dummies and their teacher arranged them one behind the other. Pansy grumbled at being in the back.
"Now, let's teach you about rows," said Miss Madeleine. "Sometimes you enemies will be spit into rows. You will be too. Physical attacks don't work in the back row and you can't physicly attack the enemy in the back row. It's because the one in front is in the way! In order to attack the back row, you have to take out the monsters in the front first. However, you can hit enemies in the back with magic. If you are good with magic you can learn how to make it into an arc so you don't hit your friends in front. But, if you are in the back, you are able to hit multiple enemies! But the spell is spread out so the outcome will be a bit diluted. That's a wrap now, good job."
The two stepped back and Miss Madeleine looked sternly at them. "I hope you're reClanmateing all this. You must never ever forget about rows. You may find yourself stuck in the middle of a battle, not being able to use the magic you need at the time if you do." She clapped her hands together. "Now for the final exam! Please attempt to take down these targets." She placed 10 dummies before them and nodded at her students.
Poppy, Pansy, 6703, Annabeth, Rory, David and James were in the front. The rest were in the back. Poppy went first. She threw some a huge beam of light at the first dummie. Next was Pansy. She dropped a huge purple block on the same dummy. Then Rory hurled some lava suds at the same dummy, making it disappear. James went hitting the one next to it. Then Carrot went. Emma lobbed four ice chunks over her companions in the front to reach the dummies, hitting two twice. Then David used pepperthorn, hitting the same dummy as James. He made a high-pitched sound like "Eh!"
When everybody had gone, the dummies were still not destroyed although there were only 4 dummied left. Each dummy attacked by using tackle. Then the group went again and won easily.
"Good, good," said Miss Madeleine happily. "That's a wrap for today. Now, I want you to reClanmate everything I told you today. If anything happens to me, I want you to be ready"
6703 beeped and said, "But what could happen to you? You're Miss Madeleine. You know.....everything."
Miss Madeleine shook her head as if she was chasing away a bad thought. "It's just I have a strange foreshadowy feeling. I don't want to alarm you." She paused and then looked seriously around at each of them. "I just want you to know this: You each have a great power. Believe in it."
And the very next day, Miss Madeleine departed from the Will-O-Wisp academy and Kovomaka. Principal Biscotti didn't say anything about where she had gone. He only hung his head and said this, "It should have been me." He looked sad and more than a little worried.
Three months later......

***
***
***
And the very next day, Miss Madeleine departed from the Will-O-Wisp academy and Kovomaka. Principal Biscotti didn't say anything about where she had gone. He only hung his head and said this, "It should have been me." He looked sad and more than a little worried.
